Feeling Creaky – Targeted therapies to hit the spot

Sometimes we all feel a little creaky or fragile & an hour of relaxation can be all that is needed to help reset the balance & retain our vitality.  But other times we may need something a bit stronger or more targeted.  Feeling Creaky massages & reflexology focus on your specific areas of concern which may have been caused by wear & tear, postural imbalances, sporting injuries or health-related issues including life-limiting illness.  The therapies range from light touch massage for medical conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease and MS, to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) massage of the mouth, to firmer or deep tissue massage for weary walkers or sporting injuries.  Whatever your reason for coming to see me, we will discuss your health & tailor the therapy to suit your needs.

Therapies

A welcome restorative massage after a good walk up the fells. It includes a relaxing foot scrub, foot & leg massage and an optional back / scalp massage. Designed to aid recovery of tired muscles & to leave you ready to tackle another hill or three!

Reflexology involves massaging your feet & can be carried out whilst fully clothed. It is based on the principle that the feet are like a mini map of the body & by pressing on the foot’s reflex points, it connects to the corresponding part of the body where it can have a beneficial effect. Some people use it to help them cope with specific health challenges e.g. hormonal imbalances. It has a very calming & deeply relaxing effect which may be helpful on a physical & emotional level, including relieving tension and improving mood & sleep.

Focussing on specific muscle groups to target areas of concern which may have originated from sporting activities, repetitive stress, postural imbalances, or general wear & tear. I can suggest stretching & strengthening exercises to help prolong the effects of the massage. Time can be set aside for a soothing massage at the end of your appointment so that you leave feeling relaxed.

Specifically for the head, jaw, neck & shoulder. TMJ therapy is particularly helpful to those with jaw ache, clenched teeth, headaches or migraines & following lengthy dental work. This therapy involves massaging the cheek, inside & outside of the mouth.

Deep pressure is applied to the back, shoulders, legs & arms to reach the deeper lying muscles. Not everyone finds this relaxing!

This is all about relaxation & providing an oasis of calm. Soothing, gentle massage can be used alongside conventional medical care to help you cope with your health symptoms. We will carry out a detailed consultation to discuss your health issues & medical treatment and decide what massage is most appropriate for you. The therapies I provide are intended to relieve the symptoms of your life-limiting condition, or the side-effects of the treatment you are receiving and are not a treatment or a remedy for the life-limiting condition itself. It is recommended that you inform your healthcare professional about receiving massages before booking your appointment with me. Home visits may be possible if you find it difficult to get to the therapy room in Staveley, which has 12 steep steps.

Important Information To Read Before Booking An Appointment

There are some conditions which might prevent an appointment so when you book, please let me know of any health issues you have & if you are currently receiving medical attention. If you are having medical treatment, you may wish to ask your healthcare professional if a massage will be appropriate for you at this time.
I may be unable to treat you if you have injured yourself within the last 72 hours, have a heavy cold, flu or a temperature, have had surgery within the last 3 months or have any blood clots / deep vein thrombosis (DVT), so please let me know. It is also useful if you could give me, in advance, a list of any medications you are taking, so that I can adjust the therapy appropriately. It is not advisable to drink alcohol or eat a large meal before a massage.

Your privacy is always respected; during a massage you will be covered by towels. For sports/remedial massage please bring shorts & a vest top.

Please be aware that there are 12 steep steps leading up to the therapy room and no lift. Parking is available in Staveley Mill Yard but there are no designated parking bays next to Staveley Natural Health Centre.

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel, otherwise there will be a cancellation fee of £10.

You may wish to have a one-off appointment or enjoy the cumulative benefits of 4-6, depending on your reasons for coming.

Aromatherapy / Essential oils can be added to enhance your treatment

Aromatherapy – it’s more than just a smelly massage! Essential oils are the pure ‘essences’ extracted from flowers, berries, fruits, herbs & trees & have been used for thousands of years for their aromatic, therapeutic & restorative properties.

Plants use their scent & chemical components to attract pollinators, repel predators or resist disease. Their essences can have an impact on us too and can be absorbed through the skin, our biggest organ, or inhaled to trigger certain effects in us. We respond emotionally more to smell than to any of our other senses making essential oils a powerful addition to a massage. Different oils can be blended together to support your health or emotional needs.

Reflexology for Fran, arthritis sufferer
“Walking up and down stairs two days after a fell race used to really ache, but no more. Whatever Jemma does gives me stacks more confidence in running so I am running more, getting fitter and just feel a whole lot better as a result.”
Sports massage for Alistair, fell runner
“I had a series of deep tissue massages with Jemma over the period of a few months due to severe muscle tension. Jemma was very professional throughout, starting with a thorough assessment followed by targeted massage and easy stretches to do at home to assist in further benefit to my treatment. After each session I experienced immediate relief and after my course of treatment I have had long term improvement. Jemma was very friendly and put me at ease immediately and the therapy room was lovely and relaxing. I would highly recommend Jemma whether it be for general relaxation or more targeted treatment.”
